Short living Icons

The Cube and the Birds Nest.

We were lucky enough to get a spot up on this building to look across at these two amazing edifices.

This is 2008, the Olympics is just weeks away.

I lived and worked only a few km from here, so we stalked these spots a lot!!

Rob Martin: Thanks, Frank. smile
How wonderful it must have been to see these, Rob! Did you get a ticket to any of the games?
Rob Martin: I did go to one event, Elizabeth. I got some free tickets. It was Volleyball. America vs .... umm.. dunno, someone. Pretty athletic stuff!

Well they certainly are impressive Rob
Rob Martin: I have lots of these. It changes colour a lot also. Fun!
I didn't realize for a second how big they were...
Rob Martin: I tried to leave in some scale items on the right. They are huge.

Very striking Rob. What line of work were you in?
Rob Martin: Thanks, Chad. I am an IT Project Manager. I was doing a large Program for PetroChina. Fun times.
The Olympics here generated huge excitement. I seem to recall Beiling put on. great show
Rob Martin: The Olympics were generally excellent. Helps when there's no one to stop you doing what you want as a Government, so they closed roads, businesses, cleaned the streets of beggars and basically made it idyllic. It was all very China.. ha ha
They were marvelous edifaces. Is the birds nest gone?
Rob Martin: I believe they are still there with the Swimming pool now a public one and the Birds Nest is just falling into disrepair, unused.
good contrast Rob... cool blues and a warm surrounding....petersmile
Rob Martin: The colours changed too, Peter. I'll dig a few out.
